From an Empty Space to a Beautiful Pink Commercial Gym
A great gym space isn’t about filling every inch with equipment it’s about building a layout that makes training feel simple: clear zones, the right equipment choices, and enough variety that members stay consistent.
And at Freyja Fit, we can design and deliver a commercial-grade finish that’s also genuinely functional and beautiful. This time, the brief was pink, a space that works for the owner and instructors, performs like the big traditional brands, and still feels like Freyja.
The vision: commercial-grade performance, in Freyja colours
This project started with a clear goal: create a strength space that feels as robust and capable as traditional commercial offerings (think the kind of quality you’d expect from established gym equipment brands), but in pastel pinks, purples and soft, uplifting tones.
Because when a space looks good and works hard, people train more consistently and instructors can coach without fighting the layout.
The brief was to build a gym that:
- Supports strength training properly (not just a pretty room)
- Has clear zones so sessions flow smoothly
- Gives enough variety for full-body programming (push/pull/legs)
- Stays tidy with smart storage (so it still looks great at peak times)
- Feels motivating to walk into for members and the team running sessions
The kit list (and why each piece earned its place)
The backbone of the space. A half rack gives safe, stable training for squats, presses, pull-ups and more without needing a full rig that dominates the room.
A brilliant all-rounder for a wide range of lifters. Great for technique, confidence and progression especially in a space that needs to work for beginners through to advanced members.
Pink bumper plates are ideal for day-to-day strength work and a busy gym environment, where kit needs to be durable, quick to load, and consistent session to session. And Pink change plates let you increase load gradually - perfect for strength progression, rehab work, and anyone building confidence.
One of the most versatile pieces in any gym: presses, rows, split squats, step-ups, core work it earns its footprint.
Storage is what keeps a commercial space usable. When plates, dumbbells and accessories have a home, the gym stays tidy, safer to move around, and easier to run sessions in.
A leg-day favourite. The V squat is brilliant for loading quads and glutes while supporting the torso, a strong option for people who want heavy lower-body work without relying on back squats alone.
Big leg stimulus with less spinal loading. Belt squats are a game-changer for anyone who wants to train hard while managing back fatigue and they open up programming options for a wider range of bodies.
Glute training is non-negotiable in modern strength programming. A dedicated hip thrust setup makes it easier to train glutes consistently (and comfortably), and it keeps the space flowing during busy sessions.
This is what turns a weights area into a complete training space. Cables unlock:
- Lat pulldown variations
- Rows
- Triceps and biceps work
- Glute kickbacks
- Core rotations and anti-rotation work
It’s also one of the best pieces for instructors and PTs because it scales from beginner-friendly to seriously challenging.
Essential for unilateral work (one side at a time), stability, and balanced strength. Dumbbells also support busy gym flow multiple people can train different movements without waiting for one barbell.
12) Accessories
The finishing touches that remove friction: collars, mats, bands and the small pieces that keep sessions smooth.
13) Flooring
Flooring is the unsung hero of a gym build. It helps with:
- Noise reduction
- Grip and stability
- Protecting the subfloor and equipment
- Making the space feel finished (and more professional)
The best part: it’s designed for real life
Aesthetic matters not because training is about looks, but because people are more likely to use a space that feels good to be in. This build is functional first, but it’s also clean, cohesive, and motivating.
And for the owner and instructors, it means a space that’s easy to coach in: clear zones, smart kit choices, and a layout that supports the way sessions actually run.
